What is ABDM?
A Digital Health Record That Follows the Patient
The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, run by the National Health Authority (NHA), gives every Indian a 14-digit ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) number. Hospitals, labs and clinics registered on ABDM can link the records they create to that ABHA, and with the patient's consent, read records created elsewhere.
For a hospital, that means three things: register the facility and its doctors, give patients an ABHA, and plug your HMIS into the consent-based exchange. Neptune HMIS handles all three.
No change to daily work
ABDM steps live inside registration, consultation and discharge screens your staff already use.
Faster front desk
Scan & Share removes manual typing of demographics for every returning ABHA holder.
Scheme & state readiness
Be ready as states and government schemes tie empanelment to ABDM compliance.
Better clinical decisions
Doctors can see a patient's history from other facilities, with consent, before they treat.
Milestones 1 to 3
Full ABDM Workflow Coverage
Every milestone NHA defines for a hospital information system, built into Neptune HMIS.
ABHA Creation & Verification
Give every patient a verified Ayushman Bharat Health Account at the front desk.
- Create ABHA with Aadhaar OTP during registration
- Verify an existing ABHA number or ABHA address
- Create a custom ABHA address (name@abdm)
- Download and print the ABHA card
- Scan & Share — patients scan the facility QR and arrive pre-registered with a token
Health Information Provider (HIP)
Link the records you create to the patient's ABHA and share them on consent.
- Every OPD visit, admission and lab report becomes a care context
- Automatic linking to the patient's ABHA
- Patient-initiated discovery and linking from the ABHA app
- Consent-based sharing as encrypted FHIR R4 bundles
- Prescriptions, diagnostic reports, discharge summaries and more
Health Information User (HIU)
With the patient's consent, pull their past records from other facilities.
- Raise consent requests to the patient's ABHA
- Track consent status — requested, granted, denied, expired
- Fetch and decrypt records from other ABDM facilities
- View fetched records inside the patient's chart
- Every access logged against the consent artefact
How It Works
The ABDM Patient Journey in Neptune HMIS
- 1
Scan & Share
Patient scans the facility QR with the ABHA app. Their profile arrives at reception with a token.
- 2
Register with ABHA
Staff pick the patient from the queue, or create or verify an ABHA in the registration form.
- 3
Consult & Treat
Prescriptions, lab reports and discharge summaries are recorded as usual in Neptune HMIS.
- 4
Link Care Context
Each visit is linked to the patient's ABHA automatically, with an SMS to the patient.
- 5
When the patient approves a request, records go out as encrypted FHIR R4 bundles.
Registries
HFR, HPR and Facility QR, Set Up for You
Health Facility Registry (HFR)
Register your hospital on HFR from inside Neptune HMIS — facility type, specialities, address and infrastructure in a guided form.
Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR)
Doctors sign in with their HPR ID, so prescriptions and reports carry a verified professional identity.
Facility QR for Scan & Share
Print the facility QR for your reception. Patients share their ABHA profile and skip the registration queue.
Health Records
Every NHA Record Type, as FHIR R4
Neptune HMIS builds standards-compliant FHIR R4 bundles following the NHA profiles, encrypts them for the requesting facility and transfers them only against an approved consent artefact.
Privacy by design
Records leave the hospital only on patient consent, are encrypted end to end, and every transfer is logged against its consent artefact.
